چکیده
IN PREVIOUS STUI)IES imivolvimsg acute cross-circulat-ioms experiment-s in rats, evidence was obtained that leukocyt-es transfused by this method were not imnsediately destroyed. ‘ 2 It was postulated that disappearance of t-ramisfused leukocytes fromn the arterial blood of irradiated leukopenic animals represemsted redistribut-ioms of these cells into a depleted body leukocyte “pool,” rather than their dest-ructiomi amid lysis. Indirect evidemsce for functional viability of these cells was derived from t-he fact t-hat irradiated rats, aft-er cross-circulatiomi with normual aninsabs, demomistrated increased ability to remove bacteria from their blood, probably t-hrough the mechanisni of phagocytosis by the transfused henkocytes.3 Morphologic idemit-ificatiomi amid localizatiomi of transfused leukocytes after they had disappeared fromn the circulation should reveal their sites of redistributioti. It has t)eems postulated that msomscirculat-imig transfused leukocytes might retisaili viable cit-her its the tissues or within sluggish vascular channels. Although the method of cross-circulatiomi permitted transfer of 400,000,000 normal leukocytes ati(l eveis more leukenuic cells imito irradiated recipients, Osgood’s calculatioms would iti(hicat-e t-hat this quamitity probably represents only a smnall fraction of the total ratleukocyte “pool.” It seemed unlikely, then, that microscopic examimiation of the tissues would permitthe idemutification amid localization of the transfused cells. The umsique circulation of t-he rodeist t-ail suggested that the capillaries amid vemsubes of the tail mightbe a site of intravascular heukocyte aggregatiomi. Therefore, certain studies of the normal rat tail were umsdert-aken, aii(h tail blood leukocyt-e coumits were compared with arterial blood leukocyte counts duritsg and aft-er various cross-circubatioms experiments. Its addition to the observations relating to the viability of transfused leukocytes, sonic interesting aspects comscermsed with the transmission of the Shay chiorobeukemia amid with t-he ability of leukemnic leukocyt-es to reverse radiation damusage were emscoumstered.

متن کاملCuscuta campestris induces apoptosis by increasing reactive oxygen species generation in human leukemic cells
Objective: Cuscuta campestris or common dodder is a holoparasitic plant that has been valorized for treatment of liver injury and cancer prevention in traditional medicine. Recently, extract of C. campestris had shown moderate antimicrobial properties and cytotoxic effects. In this study, we examined the level of cellular oxidants, cytotoxicity, apoptosis and differentiation induced by hydr...
متن کاملEvidence for stem cells in the peripheral blood of mice.
By Jo WRIGHT GOODMAN AND GEORGE S. HoixSoN T HE QUESTION of stem cells in peripheral blood is as old as histology itself, for the description of the hemocytoblast is equivalant in most accounts to that of the large lymphocyte or lymphoblast. Despite the fact that large lymphocytes and, at least in some species, occasional lymphoblasts are found normally in the peripheral circulation, the presen...
متن کاملThe Morphological Changes of Adult Mouse Testes after 60Co γ-Radiation
Background: Cytotoxic therapy can lead to prolonged azoospermia or even sterility. In the present study, we investigated the morphological changes of mouse testes after gamma-Radiation. Methods: After anaesthetizing of NMRI mice, testes and their surrounding tissues were irradiated using a cobalt therapy machine. Four experimental groups were irradiated with fractionated doses of: 1.5+8, 1.5+1...
متن کاملInteracting cell populations in cultures of leukocytes from normal or leukemic peripheral blood.
Kinetic studies in cultures containing 2 X 10(5) peripheral leukocytes from patients with acute myelobastic leukemia revealed extensive, radiation-sensitive increases in thymidine incorporation without parallel increases in cell number. Modest and variable stimulation of 3HTdR incorporation was seen with the addition of either leukocyte-conditioned medium prepared with phytohemagglutin (PHA) or...
